The Durham Art Walk, presented and produced by the Durham Arts Council, is Saturday and Sunday, April 17-18, in downtown Durham, rain or shine. The event is free and open to the public. A lot is happening at Smitten, and one new event is our Secret Sale of the Week! Each Friday afternoon (during our Retail Therapy) we will pick one item in our store and put it on sale from 4pm to 7pm. It will not be announced prior and will ALWAYS be something good … we promise.
We are busy stocking the shelves with fabulous new arrivals. If you don’t have a pair of denim leggings…come see us. Yes, everyone can wear them…we’ll show you how!

OK, so this post may seem a little random…and really it is. Smitten has gotten in so much new merchandise in and it is all beautiful. However, all that unpacking, pricing, and primping keeps me from pondering my next post. The store looks great and we are so thankful for all the new customers our “ole timer” customers have sent us! Thank you!
So yes…there is a new driver in my house and for those of you that know me well, know I have been contemplating letting my hair “go – g” (I think that sounds so much hipper than gray.) Come see me within the next few weeks…it most likely will be white! Seriously, a big congratulations to my 16 year old, Harrison, he is now an official NC driver.

Last week, I was sick. Not a little sick … very sick. Sniffles, fever, aches and a wicked cough knocked me completely out of commission. I rallied by the week’s end, but not before I realized that I, like everyone else, is human. When I get sick it does indeed take a village for my life to go on. That village is my staff…a great thank you goes out to all of them. Thanks ladies for filling in, selling gracefully, and disinfecting everything! You’ve heard me brag about my staff…that’s because they’re worth bragging about.
We have many things in the works at Smitten, and we hope you can join us as we surge onward into spring. We really do believe that one day we’ll all wake up and it will be spring in North Carolina!

Yes, this is a little late this week. MY SISTER is in town!!! (Remember the Mrs Johnson who retired last year?) A good reason to come to Wine, Cheese and Retail Therapy this week…have a great time and meet my sister! She’s the queen of Retail Therapy! You can hear about my fashionista childhood! I will make this brief and hope that you will all plan a visit to us soon. Our store looks completely fresh and new.

This week, I thought I would give everyone who reads this something to ponder and plan for. What’s in store for spring…not just at Smitten … but in the fashion world (yes, believe it or not there is a fashion world outside of Smitten!!)
It will soon be time to take stock of your spring wardrobe and begin thinking about what you need…
Leggings…Denim to be exact in black or blue denim. Despite the fact that many of us swore we would never wear them again…we are. Today’s legging are new and improved. They’re more substantial and way more flattering.
Tunic tops in all fabrics and colors … yes we wear these with the leggings.
The Trench coat…not worn as an outer piece …worn as a jacket and part of an outfit.
Color…pinks, yellows, robins egg and electric blue, orange and purple…and the always popular …black and white. Wear color boldly (as in a hot pink trench) or just as an accent (scarf or piece of statement jewelry)
I’m putting together a Spring Check list that will be available at Smitten … stop by and pick one up as you dream of warmer weather!

I have had enough of winter. I’m certain everyone else feels pretty much the same. Spring is just around the corner…I just know it. In the mean time I have been busy planning Smitten’s promotional and event calendar. We’ve got some wonderful promotions and parties planned for the first half of this year. This week we are hosting are first (but will be annual) Handbag Swap. Bring us a gently used handbag and we’ll give you 30% off a new one and donate your old handbag to Pennies for Change, which in turn directly funds Durham Crisis Response Center. We hope you can join us and do some good.
